Highway 1 Southbound

You can see why a lot of people rave about this drive, and in particularly the stretch between Monterey and Morro Bay - it is on one hand spectacular, and on the other petrifying! Especially, as the passenger of a large vehicle! Anyway, Trent had to stay sharp and keep his eyes on the road and it was up to me to describe the vista, and take pics (I had to put my fleece on, as it was windy and cool).

Here are a sample of photos

We had a couple of stops, the first one at McMay Falls in the Big Sur National Park. This is a picturesque beach, with one of the few freshwater falls joining the Pacific Ocean. The area also has quite a lot of history, about the previous owners and a demolished house.
The kids enjoyed checking it out with their "binocleairs".

The next stop was the colony of elephant seals at San Simoen. Very fun for the kids. San Simoen had a nice beach and pier, but we unfortunately missed the tours of Hearst Castle, which is one of the areas main attractions.

After a sunny break, we were back in the clouds!

We got into Morro Bay quite late, and managed to find an RV park that would let us park in there storage area - everywhere appeared to be booked out! Then it was up and off to Santa Barbara  - stopping off at Pismo Beach for a decent cup of coffee for Trent!

We could tell we were in the Santa Barbara area when we saw more and more vines. Plus the cloud lifted, so it made it a whole lot more appealing.
