Grand Canyon, Arizona

After a quick overnight in Kingman, we drove up to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

As we're fairly unprepared in terms of RV park bookings on this trip, we chanced it and headed straight into the National Park - and lucky for us there was one site left, for one night only - "we'll take it!" This campground books out months in advance for summer vacation.

Anyway, we decided to get into quickly and walked out to Mather Point for the sunset - amazing!

The next day we took the shuttle bus out to the furthest access point on the south rim to take a small hike (1.5k) - mmm, not so great for a 6, 4 and 2 year old! There was a bit of wingeing and negotiating, but definitely worth it for us - wonderful views of the Colorado River and rapids.

The highlight for the kids: a squirrel eating a little girls chips, while we waited for the shuttle!

However, as we left the Grand Canyon National Park, we drove to the opposite end of the south rim and visited the Desert View Watchtower, which was really enjoyable for all.

We were so pleased to have visited this natural wonder of the world, and while we hoped to come back one day to get into the hiking, rafting etc, the views will certainly leave a lasting memory.
